Having grown up in San Ysidro, California, Chris attended Mission Hills high school and played football, basketball, and baseball, while also running track. His senior year on the gridiron was record-shattering, as he recorded an astounding 93 receptions for 1,764 yards and 26 touchdowns, leading Mission Hills to the San Diego Section Open Division championship game and ultimately accepting an offer to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio, where he would go on to set the record for most receiving touchdowns in school history.
